Dominick Cura is a filmmaker, photographer, editor and author

Having grown up in Washington State, Dominick spent his youth exploring the wilderness of the nearby mountains, fostering a deep love for adventure and discovery. At the same time, his passion for storytelling through photos and videos took shape, eventually leading him to merge both interests—filmmaking and the outdoors—through self-made travel and hiking documentaries.

At just 12 years old, he self-published a gluten-free cookbook after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease three years prior. This early experience with storytelling and self-publishing set the foundation for his creative pursuits.

His thirst for exploration only deepened when he took a gap year after high school, backpacking solo through Europe and Asia. Along the way, he learned the value of human connection, resourcefulness, and problem-solving—lessons that continue to inform his approach to filmmaking.

Dominick went on to study film at Ithaca College, where he honed his craft. In 2020, he returned to his hometown of Seattle to direct Color of the Sky, a short film created in collaboration with local artists seeking connection after the isolation of the pandemic. His college career culminated in his thesis film, Dawn Rising.

Most recently, Dominick directed El Último Tramo, an American-Argentinian short film based on his cousin’s experience recovering from addiction. The film premiered at the Portland Film Festival in 2024, where it won Best Latine Film, and later screened at the Oscar-qualifying San Jose International Short Film Festival.

Identity plays a vital role in Dominick’s storytelling. As a bisexual filmmaker of Argentine and Italian heritage, he is devoted to telling both queer and Latine stories, exploring themes of cultural duality, belonging, and self-discovery. His work highlights the nuances of these identities—whether through narratives of chosen family, intergenerational struggles, or the quiet, unspoken moments of connection that define both queer and cultural experiences. Passionate about bringing underrepresented voices to the screen, he creates work that resonates with those who, like him, have felt caught between worlds. His love for languages—Spanish, Italian, and some Levantine Arabic—further enriches his storytelling, allowing him to craft authentic, cross-cultural perspectives.

Currently, Dominick is seeking opportunities in film and television as a Production Assistant, Writer, and Director, eager to contribute his voice and vision to meaningful projects.
